The Cambrian Cadw Coastcard.
The Cambrian Railways Partnership has teamed up with Cadw to offer two for one admission to the Castles at Criccieth and Harlech to those who travel to them by train.
To promote and facilitate the offer, new additions to the popular Cambrian Coastcard collection have been produced featuring railway artwork from yesteryear as well as both castles.
The cards are being widely distributed across the area and will be available for free from the Castles, local Tourist Information Centres and manned railway stations as well as other outlets.
Those wishing to take advantage of this offer need to redeem the voucher part of these cards, as well as showing their valid rail tickets, on entry to the Castles.
The postcard element of the cards can be retained as a nice souvenir!
Speaking on behalf of the Cambrian Railway Partnership Gerwyn Jones said "The rail journey on the Cambrian Coast Line is recognised as one of the most scenic and contrasting anywhere in the UK.
Working with Cadw on this initiative links the railway with two of the major tourist attractions in the area and encourages people to travel to them by train - combining a journey on the train and a visit to the castles makes for a great day out.
In the current economic climate everyone is looking to save money and so we are confident this scheme, by providing an incentive, will be popular in attracting more people to the area and will benefit the local economy".
Peter Gerring, Marketing Manager, Cadw, said, "Cadw's joint venture with The Cambrian Railways Partnership represents great value for money for visitors and enables both organisations to work together in jointly marketing these fantastic historic attractions and the scenic railway journeys to a wider audience.
"Both Criccieth and Harlech Castles stand in spectacular settings gazing out to sea and provide the visitor with an incredible insight into the heritage of North Wales."
The initiative was launched and warmly welcomed by delegates at the Mid Wales Tourism Conference held on the 31st of January 2009 at Llandrindod Wells.
