A new free travel guide for the Llŷn Peninsula will be launched on April 1 st 2007. The 'Llŷn Travel Guide' provides easy to read bus and train timetables as well as information on taxis, community transport, walking and cycling on the Peninsula.
The guide is intended for locals and tourists alike to raise awareness of the opportunities there are to undertake journeys on the Llŷn by means other than the car.
Gerwyn Jones, on behalf of the Cambrian Railways Partnership who co-ordinated the project, said “We often default to our cars for everyday journeys such as those undertaken travelling to work, popping to the shops, for social and leisure trips - seldom do we consider the opportunities we have for travelling by other means which are often cheaper, healthier, better for the environment and help reduce parking and congestion problems. It is envisaged that the ‘Llŷn Travel Guide' will help those who want to get out of their cars to do so and increase usage of these sustainable ways of travelling."
Bleddyn Jones, the Llŷn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Officer, commented "This Travel Guide is to be welcomed because it includes all the information relating to sustainable means of transport within the Llŷn area. Public transport and non-polluting forms of travelling will benefit the local and global environment and also offer people other benefits as well, such as not having to drive, avoiding parking costs and being able to enjoy the area's wonderful views."
In keeping with the sustainable ethos of the publication, Gerwyn will be getting on his bike and delivering copies of the 'Llŷn Travel Guide ' to a variety of outlets on the Llŷn including local shops, Post Offices and pubs as well as Tourist Information Centres early in April - get your copy now!
The guide has benefited from funding provided by the Welsh Assembly Government's Sustainable Development Fund, Gwynedd Council, Pwllheli Town Council and the Cambrian Railways Partnership. Initiall funding has been secured for two editions of the guide a year to be published for three years.
Andrew Davies Assembly Member, Minister for Enterprise, Innovation and Networks said: "I congratulate the Cambrian Railways Partnership on their work in devising this guide for the public transport around the Llŷn Peninsula. This new publication will help local people and visitors decide on alternative modes of travel to the car and enable them to enjoy the outstanding scenery of the Llŷn Penninsula whilst helping to tackle climate change."
