The Cambrian Trailways project has been developed to optimise increasing interest in outdoor activities, such as walking, and access to these by means other than by car in an area noted for its beautiful coastal, country and mountainous landscapes.
It is envisaged that the Trailways project will be of interest to four main groups:
Commenting on the Trailways recognition Gerwyn Jones, the CRP Rail Development Officer, said "Winning a national award like this helps with raising the profile of the Trailways which is essential in making such projects a success by encouraging people to get out and enjoy the walks and of course using the local trains to do so!"
The Trailways project was supported by the Association of Community Rail Partnership (ACoRP) and by the Welsh Assembly Government through a funding stream administered by ACoRP.
The much sought after 'Draig' (Dragon) Award was presented at a prestigious ceremony held at the National Museum of Wales Cardiff on the evening of Wednesday the 6th May.
